Well, I searched the forums and couldn't find the answer, so I am asking all of the DDO experts, the players.

In the quest "And the Dead Shall Rise" there are multiple altars that you pass by. These altars can be targetted and used, but don't seem to have any effect. Has anyone found out what these are for? And if so, could you please enlighten me?

I have been playing this game since general release, and admittedly still have much to learn. I thank any and all information.

Thank You

If this is the one with the spire in Delera's Graveyard, when you are at the entrance hall there is a fountain. Hitting it with a bless (or turn undead?). You might find something interesting laying around, which may give the altars some sort of effect (making the fighter in that area easier).

If this isn't the one with the spire in Delera's Graveyard, don't do that.

You know, I was just thinking about this the other day...I remember one of the devs insisting there was a purpose to the altars and now several months after the release I have still never known anyone that had a clue as to how they work. I've tried turning them on in different orders but got nothing. I have never tried blessing/turning that first one though. I'll defintiely have to run it soon and check that out.

The rumor (unconfirmed) was that if the altars were activated in the correct order, the floor would remain intact when facing the end boss.

I have a question along the same lines. What is the strategy for defeating the Boss in this quest. I only attempted this quest once because of its length before i left on deployment. When i get back i would like to take this quest down and out of my way. Pointers?

Maximized Empower disintigrate, I've heard works wonders.

Disintegrate and Heal are the go-to spells whenever I've run it.

If the altars prevent the floor from falling out in the last room, then I'm all for leaving them alone. Not sure what the intentions were when designing that aspect of the quest, but if it was to make it harder then it sure didnt.

Just ran this, and tried it out. Blessing the fountain makes it drop 6 or so gems. If you have a gem, you can use an altar and it lights up (and removes the gem). Lighting all the altars makes the floor fall out very slowly. What used to be an absolute pain was now a relatively easy fight. About half the floor fell by the time he was gone.

The easiest way to kill the Lich is to spam him with Heals and damage stuff, he is immune to Fire thanks to his Cold Version Fire Shield. And he has a Shield up, so no magic missiles.

When I did the Spire, I had to LoH him a bunch of times (including reentering after dying).

I can definitely see how NOT having the floor fall out as fast would be a big boon.

In addition to the last room, I thought that activating the altars limited the respawn after the final fight started. Not sure, as I have not run that quest very often.

*SPOILER*

I never heard of the gems affecting the final room. I have however noticed different behaviors of the floor, so it may just be random.
However, using gems to light the altars will get rid of some of the spawns at the altar, so the fights at each altar are easier. Make sure you have one person running ahead to draw aggro, and the guy with the gems follow behind to get the altar. Because if you use the altar AFTER the fight, it's quite useless.

If you move fast enough, you can jump everyone to his throne and just melee him when he gets close to you. Just make sure to keep full resists up, Deathblock and Death Ward active. Clerics spamming Mass Cures helps out too.

As for spells - Disintegrate and Heal work best. Otherwise I'd just go with a melee beat down.

if i remember the 10 floors with 10 altars only 6 gems so each gem has and alter and not all alters are used maybe there a inscribing somewhere i'm gonna check later myself

When you enter, there is a fountain. Turn undead on the fountain and it drops six gems.

There are six altars in the tower (not 10, because not all of the floors have altars). If someone with a gem uses the altar, it kills the initial spawns in the room and spawns the second set.

This is somewhat useful, but not a huge difference either way. As mentioned above, it is usually easiest to have one person run in to grab aggro and the person with gems come in behind them to activate the altar. Watch out for the traps, though.

I have never noticed a difference with the floor dropping speed whether I activate all of the altars or not - I can't say I've actually timed it though.

I have never heard of a secret door opening, although I guess it is possible. There are already secret doors located in each altar room - I believe 5 of them open up more mobs, and 1 reveals a chest. The chest location is random and changes floors each time you run the quest. If nobody has actually seen a door open, I would tend to believe the claim is bogus - the devs usually provide hints for things like that and I have never noticed any indication that there might be something more to it.

Good luck!
