The UMD skill specifically says that you can wear gear not normally allowed, I would assume this to include Required Race stuff...

If that is the case, I'm trying to figure out why I can't put on a helm I looted the other day. My UMD is 14, the Difficulty of the helm is 16.

When I use a wand, I get a d20 roll to see if it works. I had thought that a similar event would happen when I tried to put on the helm, but sadly that does not appear to be the case.

If my UMD was 16, would I be able to wear the helm?

Yes.

Wands/Scrolls require a roll.
Bypassing item restrictions is simply a comparison. If your skill is higher or equal, you can wear it. Note that items you equip by bypassing the restriction are unequipped on login, so remember to re-equip them (think this only applies if you're using buffs to hit the number, instead of natural skill).

And it's only for Race/Alignement restriction - you can't bypass minimum level.

One thing to remember... If you can get your umd up high enough TEMPORARILY you can put the item on, and it'll stay on until you take it off, or you log out. It's not usually worth doing for weapons, since you have to change weapons around so much. But for armor and other items, it works just fine.

My drow ranger can hit a 20 umd with the golden cartouche(+3 umd), the luck gloves(+1), and the second tier enhancement for rangers action boost.

So whenever I log him in, the first thing I do is put on a necklace and a pair of gloves, hit the action boost, then equip three other items. Then I swap his necklace and gloves back to his normal gear.

You can do the same thing with heroism potions, or clickies.;)

3rd level artificer infusion - Suppress Requirement:
"Item that requires feature, race, ability score, or alignment to function to its fullest potential no longer carries that requirement."

Oh wait, we dont have artificers yet.

it makes perfect sense that one race can figure out how to use a device designed for a different race with this talent. I mean basically its what it was originally designed for.
