hello fellow pvpers
i come from lhazaar and the guild damaged inc. we frequent the pvp arena and have noticed quite a few differences in the way pvp is conducted on the other two servers. id just like to suggest a way that i (and im sure a fair amount of others) would like the pvp arena to be utilized.
respect your opponent. talking trash is not appreciated. be gracious in your wins as well as losses.
keep out of other people's duels. when you see two other people fighting, do your best not to interfere. it is extremely irritating when you are dueling someone to have someone else hit or dispel you or your opponent.
DO NOT DISPEL. this is just like winning a duel by kicking your opponent in the balls. sure you can win, but you did so by kicking someone in the balls. im sure everyone hates being dispelled, so it just works better if no one dispels at all.
dont duel with buffs that you cant give yourself. ex. jumping into a melee fight with displacement and stoneskin that your caster friend gave you. its just not a legitimate win.
attack only those that are ready for you to attack them. dont attack people who have their backs turned, are buffing, or are eating. best way to fight someone is to send them a tell asking if they would like to fight. this way they can be prepared and fight you at full strength
dont have food regeneration active during a fight. heal yourself if you have a method like lay on hands etc if you gotta, but no food.
lastly, apologize if you accidentally violate this etiquette. honor is much appreciated!
im sure there will still be those who choose to dispel, attack those who arent looking, and interrupt duels. just know that this will draw a rather large target on your head.
i look forward to dueling everyone

all those are minor slights. What is truly annoying is bard song + enervation scrolls, dance, etc
or flesh to stone, then every debuff in the book after that, just letting those people sit there.

I rarely pvp, but it wouldn't be a PvP thread without someone saying:
"Red = Dead!"
now that we have that out of the way, nice list of guidelines. I wish you the best of luck with having everyone follow them.

And no hitting in the face either or pulling hair. Oh and can we not cast spells that require a will save, my fighter's will save isn't that high. :)

I hate to say it, but from my limited experience PvP in Ghall pre server merge was that anyone was fair game for anything.
Myself, if I was PvPing, any tool I have at my disposal will be used to its fullest. Anything goes.
HOWEVER, this is not to say that I didn't respect the people fighting. If I saw in general chat that X was dualing Y, no interference, I'd do my best to respect that. (fireballs aren't choosy afterall.)
BTW, if they talk trash... Please nail them hard. :)

I agree with all of your points except for this one. Dispel is one of the tools that is given to both clerics and arcane casters. I believe that any spell you have to cast is fair game.
However, if it is a tank fighting another tank and one of them is using a dispel magic clicky or something, then I do not think that is acceptable.

I like the nasty bloodfest free-for-all that the Lobster Pit is. Why should 20 other people wait patiently for you to duel it out? Do you think you are that interesting we all want to sit and watch you?
Anything that can be done in the arena is fair game. Is it annoying as hell to get nuked in back while melee'ing with someone? Yep. Is it annoying to be setup with your spec weapons or resist cloaks etc for one guy only to find yourself getting jacked by someone else entirely and getting your unprepared butt kicked? Hell yeah. Go to deathmatch if it bugs you.. Or go to House D or Phoenix PvP. But there is a reason for greater dispel, fascinate, etc it works. Dont cry because it works on you.
BTW my pet peeve is when casters jump down long enough to throw their one nuke-of-choice in half a second and then immediately jump back up to the platform, usually while your back is turned fighting someone else....and the only thing I can do about it is leave...or wait patiently for my turn to pull the same dirty trick on him :D

other than individual dules which you should do in less populated pvp taverns anyway, tavern brawls are full out brawls, anything and anyone are game. qyb.

Paladins also get Dispel Magic as one of their spells. I don't see what the difference is between a Dispel clicky and the actual spell though. If they want to use a Dispel with a low DC just so they can use one, so be it.

amen to fireball not being choosy lol. When I am slugging it out with another caster, they fly everywhere. It is not unusual for 3-4 people to die as collateral during my 1on1 lol.

Its a brawl...anything goes.
If its cheap... welcome to a barfight.
If it ****es you off...welcome to a bar fight.
If you want to dual without being interrupted...go to a less used tavern.
If I jump into the pit alone and I get FtS then enervated beyond hope...I guess next time I will make sure I bring back up.

Rules=guidelines...restrictions in PvP? :rolleyes:
Butch Cassidy: No, no, not yet. Not until me and Harvey get the rules straightened out.
Harvey Logan: Rules? In a knife fight? No rules.
[Butch immediately kicks Harvey in the groin]
Butch Cassidy: Well, if there aint' going to be any rules, let's get the fight started. Someone count. 1,2,3 go.
Sundance Kid: [quickly] 1,2,3, go.
[Butch knocks Harvey out]
I'm puzzled at the concept...if my cleric is walking by, expect some comets just cause she can :D

Just because thats the rules you'd like to see in practice doesn't mean it should be, nor that others want it to be. After all, if a tactic is annoying the **** out of your opponent, then its probably working, isn't it?

Thats it! Until/if/when turbine decides to revamp the PvP system everyone is stuck.
Players should have the ability to 'host' PvP instances...limit it to say 10 per Inn, first come first serve. Password protect them...give the 'host' booting/banning power from 'their' little instance...no camping unless you do it in pairs and the inactivity timer could be set to 2 mins with a warning...that would keep peeps from griefing the situation EASILY.
Want your fight to be private...thats how to do it. I would be more likely to use PvP more if a situation like that was setup.
But if it were easy to alter PvP OR if turbine wanted to do it...we'd have some lvl filters built in already...nothing more fun than having some 10th lvl pally slaughtering some group of 2nd and 3rd lvls in the lobster. Thats the guy that should get comet fell everytime he sets foot in PvP until the end of time! :D

I hate when fighters or barbs say "well if it wasn't for your loh i would of owned you" IM like dude your a fighter or barb with atleast anywhere from 6-14 points of strength more than me, your a tactical fighter and if your tactics fail on you then thats the way it is....... don't hate cuz you dont have enough hp or w/e to beat a pally remember barbs can have up to 600 points but average about 230-320 while i got about 220. Im a pally with 60 ac buffed, and got about a 36+(buffed) to hit with 33 fort save, 28 reflex, and 26 will save thats what pallies are all about. Now same thing with stat damage weapons if i dont have a greater bane weapon i use weekening of enfeebling i mean how would a pally not want to use this method with 60 ac and your lowering a tanks + to hit making it harder to the point where they have to roll a 20 to hit. thats just smart not being a scared or anything. SO stop the hatting!!!!!!
also accepting challenges in pvp for any tank.

I only have 63 AC :D...... but thats not my point. My paladin Kyuu can kick ass, but if I use a stat damage weapon, or as Zolt juss said "Oh, I woulda beaten you if you didnt use LoH" or "Ur a *****, because you cant beat me w/o lowering my str" or sum other BS like that. It's PvP, you can use any weapon, any bane, the spells they allow you to use, and other things like that. I mean, its like saying a ranger cant use Multi shot with a gr bane bow, or a Wounding of Puncturing bow! I mean, it may feel cheat, but why dont you roll one of your own, then see how it is? You'd never feel that it was cheat ever again. BUT, while on this subject, it isnt nice to use dispel, especially if they cant dispel you back. Try to make it honorable, instead of the Drunken Bar Brawl it really is :D

Is it cheap to use dispel? Sure, why not. But it's also cheap to use 3000 buffs in the first place. So who cares? :)

Since when can you have 3000 buffs -.-?
Anyway, I prefer honorable fights(even if it is a tavern Brawl) with other people equal to my level or better. Try matching a Paladin with a Barbarian or a High DPS fighter? So unfair.... thats why the DDO gods gave us Lay on Hands!! And ungodly AC! j/k. But really, to me, and a few people I know(Zorak himself doesnt like being dispelled, I know from experience -.- ) dispel, crudely put by a few people earlier in this forum(Dergan, i'm talking to you, bro.) think of dispel as, well, a kick in the balls with steel-toed boots. Mabey not that painfull, but sometimes it can be. If all the buffs you get are something you can pop on, instead of given to you by someone else, you should get to keep em. Like, a pure fighter with displacement? Anyone hear of a displacement clickie? or a fighter with a high UMD period?(im talking pure class here) If dispel were 'nerfed' so to say, for non-combat instances to remove buff's not casted by the player, then its kinda more fair. But you wont see Turbine doing this, will you? I mean, the main portion of this game's player's dont even give a rip about PvP. So, I say use whats at your disposal. Just try to keep the fights "clean", ok?:D :D

Could all you melee types not use weapons too? No one likes to be cut down with weapons... perhaps a firm scolding will do?
I echo the sentiment of others here. Any character I bring into a PvP will use every ability and item at his disposal. Asking a caster not to dispel is like asking a barbarian to not have so many hit points in the brawl pit.
Oh, and by the way...
Lhazaar+Ghallandra+Fernia=hmm, Lhallania?
I prefer Ghallerniazaar...

When the characters were leveling up, ie 7.3, it was a bit more notable. I suppose it is a bit silly looking now, so I'll throw on a lowbie to even it out.

I dont PvP much with my Paladin nowadays :D mostly my caster, Aaerith. And the reason I talk a big game is because I can deliver :p
But, yea, it's possible to hit 63, if you gimp evrything else:
10 Base
04 Dex
13 Armor
09 Shield
05 Deflection
06 Dodge
01 Size
04 Misc
05 from pally AC boost
05 Natural
62 Total AC
02 Recitation
02 while holding your shield blocking
66 total AC
This is based off of a Pure Paladin class

Just nitpicking:D
Being the stat nut that I am, I wanted to point out something you overlooked. 9 from the tower sheild bonus and the +5 your getting from dex bonus. The tower sheild(assuming its mith or course) would cap your dex bonus out at +4, and unless you have enough fighter in the build to get fighters sheild mastery. Total would be 66.

I was doing this while I was in my office, so I was doing it off the top of my head.
Ok, changed my post of AC.
Also, I normally dont run around with this kind of AC. Normally, my AC cap's around a 51-55 AC, depending on what im doing at the time. This is so my To hit doesnt drop from its normal ammount(14 BAB+1 Weapon+8 Str mod+3 from DF+2/4 Heroism/Gr Heroism=28/30 self buffed) to something 2-5 less.
Sad thing is, my pally is gimped in the damage department anyway. On average, only hitting 16-20 w/o bane or any other mod. my new barb, at lvl 6, is hitting 28-36 w/o any mods added in, un-raged.

sounds to me like what you "delivered" is a bunch of what if's!!! there is a magical place where "what if" amor class is taken into account when opponents make their attack rolls against you... however that sure as **** is not in the pvp pit! in addition to the dex bonus thing might as well drop recitation - cant be cast in public areas, or pit. and im curious what item did u have for+5 natural armor bonus? all the number nitpicking aside when u did pvp with your pali I never had a prob hitting you with power attack on so i would say your ac was actually closer to 46 at the time.
irregardless of how anyone feels about pvp... its there for one purpose entertainment. whether u find fighting duels entertaining or jumping in and interrupting fights in progress is your form of entertainment have fun doing so.
remember though if getting in the middle of someone elses one on one fight is your idea of fun, more often than not its because ur incapable of winning a one on one fight. After the second time doing so you will become a target.

Like I said, I normally dont run around run around with a 60+ AC, and if I didnt say that, I'm saying it now. So, it doesnt matter. and either way, I gimped my paladin, and I have stated that. I built him to be a support tank with a high survivability, not a front-line DPS tank. If I have not started this before, I'm saying it now. So, dont go off on a tangent for answering someone's question!! He asked me how I can get my AC to a 63 or higher, and I have stated it. I also said that I gimp myself even more when I do so, so I normally do not. If you have any problems with me, PM me about them, instead of posting them in the public eye. I would do the same to you.

ok... I think you make good points on PvP ettiquette but those 2 I can not agree with.. Why?
Dipel Magic is a tool that casters have and should not be taken away from them.
Sneak attack for rogues are hard enough to get off in PvP. not letting them attack because you are not paying attention to them *Only way a sneak attack will work* just makes a Rogue even more useless in PvP.
