Does true seeing reveal creatures that are sneaking, or do i need the spot skill? Is there any advantage to having the hide skill if i can turn invisible? Also, how important is move silently when invisible? Thanks

True seeing does not allow you to see sneaking opponents. At low levels, invisible more than makes up for a low hide skill. At high levels there are a few foes who can see invis: beholders, drow, flesh renders, any purple name.

As Ghoste said, Invisibility is of limited use at higher levels. Ultimately, good sneak skills are never necessary, but can be useful, especially if you plan to solo a lot. Move Silently is just as important as Hide when it comes to sneaking, and don't bother raising up your Hide skill without raising up your MS as well. Move silently is even more important when you're relying on Invisibility, since many creatures who won't be able to see you will still hear you (and will move towards you accordingly, and can possibly get to attack).

In the next update, Spot and Listen skills will become even more important, as the Tab-key targetting won't lock on to hidden creatures that you can't detect, so if you're building a character now you may want to invest in these skills (or not, many will get by fine without them).

We don't see the exact mechanics of enemies' ability to notice you, but a few factors come into play: The enemy's Spot and Listen scores (warrior-types tend to have low scores, cleric/shaman types tend to have high ones), distance (between you and the creature you're sneaking past), and facing (the enemy will have more trouble seeing you when looking in the other direction). As a result, you want to avoid sneaking past cleric types when possible, give creatures as wide a berth as possible, and try to stay at their backs. Of course, if you actually bump into a creature, it will automatically detect you and try to attack.

Also, bear in mind that some creatures have "tremorsense", and are effectively impossible to sneak past, including spiders and slimes/oozes.

I hope this helps

Seem to remember elite fire giants winding up on that list as well from when they modified the Threnal caves way back.

btw, i believe all creatures with the ability to see invisibility, have it listed as a buff when you examine (Z) them.
