ok so here i sit with my shiney new comp and can not play DDO

let me give u the full story
today i recived my new comp took it out of box first thing i did after pulling out hair and screaming NOOO!! when i noticed it had vista on it was run update till i had none left to down load and install.

second thing was to install DDO and then do a very long update for the game. I remembered seeing in the forums that there where problems with Vista and DDO so i went back to forums and trolled all i could to be rdy when patching was complete ..

so after close to 1 hour of update/patching i went to windows fire wall and gave both launcher and client permissions.

then ran game geuss what straight in no problems loged in my main toon ran around a bit oohhed and aahhed at the speed increase and the improvement in graphic detail. loged out of main and selected a secondary toon clicked enter went to welcome to storm reach screen and just hung , , , ,hung some more till i got server conection lost message and client droped i have not been able to get a toon into the game since every login attemt since has loaded game up to toon selection screen fast but as soon as i try to enter i hang and get server lost message..

things i have tryed since to fix problem disabled UAC no change, turned off firewall no change , tryed running game as admin no change..i even went as far as editing the permisions in the proporty diag for both the launcher and client to full for my adim/user acount ( no im not a newb to comps just Vista) no change..

if u have any help plz tell me i did not spend money on this thing to not play my game

ok something i just noticed my wireless acttivaty light stops flashing when i get to that screen .. dont know if that means anything?
tryed using lan connection not wifi same prob

well after a few hours of not getting a toon in at all i was able to log in just once again could not swap toons as b4.. if i wait for a while i get lucky some times and get a toon in but i can not swap zones or i get stuck in the load screen and time out all over again plz any help ..
can now confirm that evrey time i am able to login (not offen) if i try to switch zones i lose server conection ??

This sounds like a network issue, and probably doesn't go back to Vista. What router are you using, and who is your service provider?

hi Karch thnx for responding router is a d-link DI-524UP my isp is optus australia i do not belive it is a network issue and here is why

1 the other 2 comps on my router still conect and play ddo no prob

2 i noticed when switching from chr selection screen to game i got a werid flash in the upper left hand corner of my screen so i set game to run in windowed mode so i could see if any thing was happing in the back ground i found that the catalyast control center that runs in my task bar drops out at the same time .. i am now looking at this being a vid software/driver problem..

i also found that vista has a feature that i have never seen in older versions of windows that keeps logs of error reports and i found this in there ( not that this error report ever came up on my screen) This problem was caused by ATI External Event Utility, Ati2evxx.exe. ATI Technologies, Inc., who created this program, does not currently have a solution for this problem.


i have look at the ati/amd site for help but at this time they offer no surport for this card or software and just directed me to my laptop manufacture who also have no sulutions for this problem.

i have even gone back to old faithful OMNI but his drivers have no Vista suport as yet..

as far as i can tell the prob occuress when going from 2d graphics to 3d or the other way round i will continue to chase the driver/software angle as far as i can ..

Does that wireless card have the dual atenna? If so is the band selectable? Is it set to the right band for your router? Have you tried power cycling your router? Oh bythe way get a real router (netgear) :P


just came across this post.

Though I'm sure somebody will let me know how wrong I have it, everything seems to work fine for me by simply running the game in WinXP SP2 compatibility mode.

I just right click on the DDO icon on my desktop, hit properties, go to compatibility, choose WinXP SP2, and check the compatibility checkbox. Everything runs fine for me after that. Of course I always launch the game from that icon. Before I switched to compatibility mode I would get a hang on the "checking files" part of the login sequence.

After confirming that ATI doesn't directly offer drivers for your computer, it seems that it is indeed a driver issue. You'll have to visit LG to update your drivers, though. That's almost certainly the solution for this issue. If not, you'll probably want to request an RMA, because your video card could be overheating/failing. Here's the link to LG's support site:

I recently bought a geforceGO equipped laptop, and had similar issues. Laptop card drivers are only available on the laptop manufacturer's site because the video cards are not standardized like desktop cards are. They need to be customized per laptop, so unfortunately, you're going to have to wait on LG. I looked around their site for a fair amount of time, but I couldn't find any direct driver updates for you. ATI has certainly released drivers since then, and hopefully LG has done whatever customization was required to make them compatible with your computer.

Try loggin into anouther server if you can.


If you can your old toon is stuck cleaning up.


Its been happening again since the merges.


Just go on another server and put a ticket with the stuck toon and server its stuck on they can clear it up.


Reason i beleve this.....is you got the game to run once....therefore its probably not the comp.
