Not sure many of you follow this peculiar style of play, but Umbra Shadow Warrior of The Sublime Permadeath Guild just made Level 13.0 (Rank 61) tonight on Thelanis! That is 13 Levels without dying once! He has 1059 Favor currently for those that are curious...

Here's to one more Level-up and 9 more Ranks!

that is more remarkable than soloing the reaver... simply amazing.

i am curious to learn more... does permadeath include dieing in the presence of a cleric and accepting a rez?

Rules may vary from Permadeath Guild to Permadeath Guild and some individuals may pose harder rules on themselves to make the gameplay even more challenging, but The Sublime Permadeath Guild does allow a Cleric or UMD Scroll User to Resurrect a fallen Group Member if they are Level 4+ and the Rezzer was in the Group at the time of the Death... With that being said, in the past two months I have only seen one person brought back to life on a mid-level Stormcleave run...

The lowest hit points Umbra has ever been was at Level 2... Tempted by a Guild Cleric who was Level 3 at the time and has since died, Umbra was doing Information is Key on Hard before he felt ready for it... On the final fight, they went to pull one or two bad guys and they got them all! :( Umbra got greased by the named Iron Defender and went down where they beat him to -1 HP and left him for dead... Next they turned their focus to the Cleric, but, after a nerve-wracking 20-30 minutes of being chain-greased on the ladders, the Cleric managed to cast a Pet to distract the bad guys long enough to get one heal off and bring Umbra back to consciousness! Umbra was a Level 1 Fighter/Level 1 Wizard and repaired himself quickly and then took out the bad guys... Umbra has never gone unconscious, knock on wood, since.

If you wish to learn the rest of the rules for The Sublime, please visit the following URL:

thesublimeguild.net

The Sublime Permadeath Guild has an open recruitment but you must abide by the rules and can only join with a Level 1 toon on newbie island or in Wavecrest. Trading or grouping with individuals outside the Guild is not permitted, and you may not mail items to your low-level toon from non-Sublime toons.

Quick question here...can I safely assume that this means no Rez shrines, right? That would only make sense to me, but I've heard arguments about that, that would make your head spin. If Rez shrines were never used, too, I think that this something that I could really get into...if I can find the time, that is.

*Contemplates ceding guild leadership* :p

No rez shrines. If you had a healer that could actually rez. then there would be no need for a rez shrine. Therefore your death is permanent (hence permadeath :P )

And how long did it take you to reach 13?

If i am not mistaken it has been maybe a month or a bit longer. Somewhere in the 1-2 months range i would say.

Again Gratz Umbra

And somehow I, Bard Slacker Extraordinare, got named as one of the best players on thelanis in your stead...

Way to go Umbra. When you get tired of soloing stuff, I look forward to partying with Cobaltumbra again... but may that be a long ways away.

By that logic, you shouldn't be using the Rest Shrines either, or is that also part of the rules? :)

either way, gratz !

The thought of a perm-death guild boggles my mind. To each there on I guess, however, though I am not ashamed to say that I see permdeath guilds as pointless. I must honestly give credit to this acomplishment. I am truly impressed. Good luck on adventuring to 14.

I have been a part of DDO since Alpha and I play on many different toon names. I have played many of the Quests DDO has to offer over a hundred times - some in the 300 to 400 range. I have 22 Characters currently on Thelanis including a Level 14 Battle Mage, Cleric, Battle Cleric, Evasion Paladin, Wizard, Ranger, Bard, Fighter, Rogue/Ranger, etc... Yes, I am an adict. But at least I am not in denial. ;) Lately I have been playing DDO to pass the time while I am interviewing for a new job. But normal play had lost its luster. I am in a high-end Guild on Thelanis and they raid all the time. Even still, people argue about loot and whatnot and I had more than my share so I took a break from it. Permadeath play is something I did back in Diablo II and found it fun. I wanted to try it in DDO as well. It is good for a change of pace and also allows me to hone my skills as a Player. When Module 5 comes out I'll likely play my Main Character and a bunch of my high-levels and give Permadeath a break for a while, but, until then, I have something new to do and it allows me to accomplish things no one has done before.

While exploring the Desert of Menechtarun, Umbra was onset by Mendexethazz and his evil band of Scorrow! He was dispelled multiple times and fought bravely against the odds never considering that this might be his end... But it was.

Umbra died at Level 13.0 with 1084 Favor.

I lament for Umbra: a great warrior and adventurer. May there be more like him in the future!

Heh, Umbra just died an hour ago. ;)

I had been playing some of my regular toons to fight boredom. It is lonely at the top of Permadeath.

I am retrofitting Cobaltumbra to prepare him for Module 5. I'll also be playing some of my newer IFV toons as well.

Sorry to hear that he was lost, but still a great accomplishment to get him that far.
