OK.. I have a peeve...
If you see a LFM with either In Progress or Make your own way, Don't join unless you can actually get there by yourself. Seriously.
If you see me posting this, realize that I will not come and get you, show you where the quest is and basically hold your hand.
I'm already tired of teaching (like 6 months ago), and if you're joining my party and you're not ready and capable... please realize that the odds of me coming out (and thusly slowing the instance's progress) for you is very unlikely.
Now, I'm not saying that a noob can't join, just be ready. Have your own healing covered. Carry the pots you'll need and think you'll need and be prepared to run fast... the odds that the path is clear is pretty good, and the quest odds are is almost done... so don't be afraid to join.. just be ready & self sufficient.
So far I've met few new people who understand what they're getting into...
thus the post.

Agreed, I've seen much of the same with groups I've joined. I also think part of this problem may be the fact that 75% of the lfm's I see on the boards that are for levels 11-14 doing quest on normal????? What is this normal they are trying to do?

Not only pop, when I read this I looked at the lfm's, there was a 11-14 group forming to do Chamber of kourush on normal. What are they thinking!!!!

there is a vast number of ppl on thelanis that actually like a slower pace, exploritive type quest run.
there are actually alot of ppl on thelanis that like to start on normal and then be coaxed into doing hard and end up on the elite setting.
personally, being a rusher/zerger, i tend to stay away from these grps, however i do realize that they are out there.
alot of grps will say what to expect and i would suggest that you CLEARLY STATE IN YOUR LFM statement what you expect and how you intend on running said quests as to avoid any and all confusion about what joining members will expect from your grps.
a simple
"doing POP, elite setting, rush/zerg members only, pst. RP/slow go players need not apply"
or some such manner.
i can tell you that posting here on the forums is going to net you notta lot, except maybe grief
another thing, i tend to be the king of rushing/zerging, but if i join a zerg/rush grp, i intend to be healed. i carry pots for emergencies and in case i get an idiot healer (which i usually only grp with once then put on my "idiot healer" list) and vise versa, if im playing my cleric you had better stay in range or die in which case i will laugh at you and may or may not rez you :)
theres 2 types of rush/zerg
1. i rush, i zerg and im extremely good at what i do
2. i rush, i zerg, i die cause im an idiot, im a poor player to begin with and i shouldnt consider myself a rusher/zerger :P :P
happy posting, welcome to thelanis!

It's not zerging.. it's efficient use of time management. :D
But I do have to agree with the OP - read the LFM *before* you join the group. Nothing I hate worse then someone joining and their first question is "What are we doing?" followed quickly by "What house is that in?"

LOL... I will get grief.. and as most folkes know... I could care less. My original post stands. If the LFM says In Progress or Make Your Own Way.. well that means just that..

LOL... here as well.. I'm on my 3rd cleric... I heal and kill very well. But if I'm in a party with a mana sponge... well the healing stops and the punk gets to wait until the next shrine. If a crazy zerger can't be bothered to draw back, work in the fast moving team... then he gets booted from the party... but if the person can hold their own, in a fast good manner then they quickly become a friend:D
P.S. earlier today I ran with a great pug of lowbees in deleras, and this fast moving party rocked...

I didnt know one could actually do normal or hard (except perhaps the first time, to open the next level)
I better put in a bug report my button is broken, it only lets me select elite :D
Oh and in the LFM, if your one of us perhaps simply put it as "XORIAT STYLE" in the comment

Elite or bust is better.
Ok, time for me to rant.
I dont understand this. This, is a game. I, play the GAME. What they do with the Servers, does not affect my gameplay what-so-ever. I will continue to zerg and hammer out every quest on elite as usual. People whining, and complaining do nothing for me; Since I will continue todo what I do best. Regardless if they merge all the servers together into one. I will still play. I will still choose one or 2 different people to run with me and see how it goes. If they are good they may be welcomed back. If not? Oh well, I might try to help them with Items, Tomes, Gear, to make them better. If that doesnt work, Best of luck and ill see ya around.
Ask around, I'm probably one of the most generous, yet hardest person to team with. How i got that way, i have no idea. I hand away items and tomes like candy. I zerg people through favor if they ask.
What people whine about 4 days after a new merger? Goes right past me. It shouldn't bug you either. Play your game the way you always have. As will I. Get comfortable with the new people. I am. Them make your opinion in about a month or to, And I'll validate it. I'll respect it. And I'll agree with it.
Sorry, if this bugs anyone. But hey, ITS A GAME! Have a good time dammit.

I think Scar is just telling everyone his playstyle, which is the same for about 90% of us who have come from Xoriat. And yes there is such a thing as normal and hard, it's the two times you have to play that quest on unless you have someone who can open it straight to elite or when you are doing a quest that is approximately 5 levels above where your character is at. :D

Not whining. LOL...
I think you might get what I'm saying with a bit of clarification... if you see my descriptive comment on a LFM you know what I'm doing. Now, that clarifies things a bit.
If I were to see a Wizardking Run in Progress, RPing Required, I'd know that I gotta talk funny (I talk like someone from the Ozarks.. cuzdey funnee), and say in party things like "look o'er dare... see dat coffin thingy... bet there somethin inside.. lets look inside" or "look there's something shiney" or "bah, humbug.. these are dwarf made floors.. no way they can break.. we built to last... har har har". ( remember in RPing you can't use foreknowledge... it ruins the experience, you must RP ignorance too!!!).
So, if you're not getting what I'm posting... sorry mate but you might just not get whats happening over the next week... can't say what is aout to happen... but you'll see.:)

FERNIA SERVER:
level 2 sorcerer, Bob
level 1.4 fighter, Billy
level 1.04 pally, Billy bob
level 0.8 ranger, Joe
level .007 cleric, Bobby Joe
level 3 bard, Billy Joe
level 1.2 battle bard, Jobbey
That is the funniest thing I have read all week. Do you seriously have 7 characters that total less than 9.5 levels? ROFLMAO. I gotta assume that's a joke but then again if you're from Fernia...
i tend to be the king of rushing/zerging, but if i join a zerg/rush grp, i intend to be healed.
This has gotta be the second funniest thing I've read all week. A decent cleric will stick with the majority of his group and keep everyone within his range healed at all times. That said, it's not the cleric's responsibility to chase down morons. If you leave your cleric in the dust and can't keep yourself healed that doesn't make you the king of zergers, it makes you the king of n00bs.

thus the post.
the OP pretty much states that coming into his zerg/rush grp you need to be self healing, notice the "have your own healing covered" and the "carry the pots youll need" statements......
being a zerg/rush cleric, tank and bard when im in a rush/zerg grp on my cleric i expect to heal everyone in the party no matter the speed, however i would agree with you, you run out of range you are going to die and i will in turn laugh.
when i am playing my tank in a zerg/rush grp, yes, i expect the cleric to heal me most of the time, if i run out of range then, yes, i expect to die and be laughed at and maybe rez'ed maybe not rez'ed.
as far as my assertion of being the king of zerg my implication was that i tend to search for zerg/rush grps or mostly just grp with my guild and fiends of the guild that know what to expect from me.
bluntly pointed if i join a zerg/rush grp and there is a cleric on board i expect to be healed unless, like i already stated, i run out of range and become an idiot. i dont expect to have to waste thousands of plat on healing myself, and if im the bard in a grp with a cleric i dont expect to waste thousands of plat on scrolls/wands doing 90% of the healing.
i will secede that i overlooked the OP's statement slightly about making it clear that his grps are a zerg/rush type run. i was just pointing out that maybe it should be made so clearly that even a tard couldnt mistake his intentions for the quest.
i remain by the standpoint that alot of thelanis players like their slow-go, rp style grps and if you watch the LFM board alot of grps will clearly state RP ONLY or NO RUSH ALLOWED, sometimes the opposite isnt as clearly stated.
in all of these and other post though i do get the overwelming sense that you guys from xoriat are on edge, hey i would be too if my server got shut down, but then again my server isnt the one that was sorry enough to get closed :)

Clearly state in my LFM what we expect?
Well, doesn't the LFM show the quest name and the level the quest is being run on if you program it? And if not, don't most players put something like DQ6-man Elite Must get here on own.

People need learn to READ (on bold and underline, because I cannot change the size font to 200), see the icon of class and the range of level and don't ask with wanna A, B or C if this classes/levels aren't in LFM.
Tired of you ask: everybody runned the quest before? and nobody say nothing and in middle, people just keep lost in desert asking for 1 person leave the dungeon for "see the entrance" (in time: people that started together or enter in a LFM that say "need know how enter in quest")
Better last night was running Chains of Flame (mod. 3 quest) and cleric looking for us inside the Ruins of Gianthold.
Players don't know (most part or close sure that 90%) that you can open favor UI, click 2x on the name of ANY quest and will open the Quest Journal, and you'll see the area, name of quest, quest giver, ...
READ. I'm Brazilian and English isn't my first language, but I know read and found a place on this game... imagine now DDO with large areas as WoW or LOTRO ...

ROFL... coffee spews :D
Hi Dorthin,
Yep, even my BC's Heal... ( they do an alright job too) and that is one role of a Healer Class... but I do think that everyone should carry some means to heal themselves too. As well as self-buff. Having these items, immunity items etc is not only smart but key to being a good party member. Nothing wastes mana faster than players who won't carry disease immunity devices, blindness ward, elemental resistances etc... to me, this smacks of disrespect... it's like saying to your GF... I joined with you so you can do my dishes, my laundry and wash between my legs... because I can't do these things myself. You can be certain that the loving gets more scarce when someone can't take care of the most basic functions.
Now, as you said you're a solid tank who kills things good... I will heal and keep healed any good tank who can destroy anything that gets in his way... because he is doing what we invited him to do...
As for my opinion on the few PUGs I've joined... they've been excellent. I haven't done a lot of PUGing, mainly because my friends are always on, but the few groups I've been on have been solid... :D

It's not zerging.. it's efficient use of time management. :D
But I do have to agree with the OP - read the LFM *before* you join the group. Nothing I hate worse then someone joining and their first question is "What are we doing?" followed quickly by "What house is that in?"
*bangs head on keyboard*
Reading is fundamental!
AMEN!!!
That one is usually followed by "oh didn't you read the LFM" and booted from party.
If I have an LFM up for "said quest" and instructions like OP says and someone asks me...
what are you doing?
what house?
can you help me get there?
how do I get there?
are you going to wait for a clr or we going to try this without one?
etc, etc, etc?
I have no problem playing with noobs, showing people where stuff is, how to run it more efficiently/easily, etc, but when you are in a quest and state instructions. Well, it just shows how stupid people are.
"Read the LFM and get back to me is always my response" (if I even respond to them)

Well I do that some.. asking what house. As I am joining a quest I haven't done in a long time. It doesn't always suggest the asker is a moron, usually I ask as I am running to the teleporter of whatever house I am in.

If the LFM says "underway-you must be able to make your own way to the quest" then it means just that.
I thought it said 'In Progress' OR 'Find your own way in' or something to that effect.
'In Progress' does not to me denote that when I join I am on my own to catch up. Depends on the quest and how far the others are into it. Some quests it would be impossible or nearly to so catch up past a certain point.
'Find you own way in' or whatever was actually posed it much clearer. Depending on the quest I would Pm and ask about where the party is before joining.
I think the gist is, perhaps putting more than either of those would be better.
How hard is it to put "In progress, zergers only, make your way to us"
that would be pretty darn clear.. and then you wouldn't need to be aggravated by folks joining without a clue. The fact that this happened enough to justify a posting suggests that for your own enjoyment perhaps bit more verbosity would be in order.. NOT because your being unclear really. but because some folks need to be smacked over the head with it.. and sometimes ya just gotta smack em.

What's really starting to **** me off is putting up an LFM for a fighter/barb/pali and having a wizard want to join. Clearly my LFM says fighter/barb/pali, so what are you doing even asking.
I was reminded of that scenario again last night by another party leader who said he experiences the same thing all the time. Actually, he went one step further in his dialogue about how the wizard wouldn't accept that. He sent tell after tell explaining how 1337 he was and that our party could really use his expertise. Drives leaders crazy. I know enough to not even ask if you're looking for one type and it's not me.

I know one thing for sure... the minute I get some fool blah blahing tells to me on how good they are and how their toon should be invited into my party instead of what I'm looking for, is the second before I hit squelch... and begin my own set of tells to my friends letting them know the dweebs name:D
Now this doesn't mean I won't take a sorc on instead of a tank... it just means I won't put up with idiots and fools.
If you gotta brag, and no one knows you.. it only means one thing... that you ain't getting in my party :D

I feel your pain. One of the most confusing parts of the merge is that I used to be able to say, "Never heard of you, must be an uber kiddie, buh bye." /squelch

I've heard good things about you... in fact you've garnered respect... if I have an LFM up or I see an LFM I'll join your party for sure... but you may be surprised about some others speeds as well:D

FERNIA SERVER:
level 2 sorcerer, Bob
level 1.4 fighter, Billy
level 1.04 pally, Billy bob
level 0.8 ranger, Joe
level .007 cleric, Bobby Joe
level 3 bard, Billy Joe
level 1.2 battle bard, Jobbey
That is the funniest thing I have read all week. Do you seriously have 7 characters that total less than 9.5 levels? ROFLMAO. I gotta assume that's a joke but then again if you're from Fernia...
Definately a joke. :) As far as I know, Jaitee and I are the first folks to post screenies for Prison of the Planes solo runs with our sorcs .. so, lil' Fire chief there has some skills. Shame those threads are gone now eh?

Not a computer programmer by trade but I seem to recall a thread where someone gave the code for the forum upgrade. Looked something like:
DELETE all thread WHERE lastpost date > 03-01-2007 EXECUTE.
Or something to that effect.
Thank God it's a heck of a lot harder to screw up loading the flight management system or airplanes would be falling out of the sky and landing in Canada!

What I'd like to see is a repeat of the WKRP incident... nothing funnier than dropping turkeys from the sky:D

We do that all the time.....
We call them "AIRBORNE".
Nothing like jumping the dirt darts.....800 feet AGL (above ground level) and 90 knots.....*sigh*....are we THERE yet? I know this helicopter goes faster. I thought you guys were supposed to be good, so why do we have the cruise control set at barely a walk? Screw this....I'm givin' them the green light and I hope their jump-daddy realized we're not quite over the DZ (drop zone) but if they end up in the middle of town, I'm gonna laugh. Anything to get rid of these guys and their obnoxious holier-than-thou attitude. *flips the green light switch* Bu-bye turkeys!
