WELL AFTER TALKING TO 5 DIFFERENT PEOPLE OVER A COURSE OF 3 DAYS, I STILL CANNOT LOG INTO THE ARENAL SERVER. WAS BOOTED WHILE HOSTING A LIVE EVENT. SINCE THEN I GET TO THE MOD 5 PREVIEW LOADING SCREEN AND IT TELLS ME "CLEANING UP OLD CONNECTIONS.." I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. I LEFT MY COMPUTER AND MODEM OFF FOR 6+ HOURS. I GET THE SAME MESSAGE EVERY TIME.
IM TRYING TO JUSTIFY PAYING $15 A MONTH FOR A GAME I CANNOT PLAY. iM PRETTY SURE ITS NOTHING WRONG ON MY END, IT SEEMS YOU GUYS ARE HAVING A HARD TIME ACCEPTING THAT.
IT IS INCREDIBLY HARD TO EVEN GET A RESPONSE FROM YOU PRACTILLY NON-EXISTANCT TECH SUPPORT TEAM. SEEMS LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE QUITTING THE GAME BECAUSE OF THIS. I KNOW OF 5 PEOPLE THAT QUIT JUST THIS LAST MONTH FOR A SIMILAR REASON. BAD TECH SUPPORT.

Have you tried to log onto a different server ?
I have had that work for me in the past, then exit the game and try to log back into Aeranal.

Log into another server and send a GM a help request with your situation. They can boot your character from limbo.

I had this happen a few months ago. Reinstalling fixed whatever-it-was.

Try to run without a router in your network mix if yopu have that. Just plug straight into your modem. I fix PCs, and find that people's routers are often the culprit in many network problem situations. I have personally gone through 3 routers this year alone.
I also don't know you, but I tend to find that people who state 'Its not my PC' will eventually discover that the problem is indeed their PC.
Post your system/network config. here, maybe I can help.
I play on Aerenal, and noticed yesterday that it took me much longer to get into an instance than normal. I ctrl-alt-deleted, which brought up my task manager, then let it sit for a minute, then alt-tabbed back to the game. I found this to work a few times when logging into instances. This is usually followed by me needing to purchase a new router in the near future.

Did you try the solution above about logging into another world and getting a GM to boot your character from the other world?
I remember this being a known issue, and if you had done a search on the "CLEANING UP OLD CONNECTIONS.." the game gave you, I'm sure you would have found the answer to this issue.

Yea. But I am an eternal cheap person who buys the cheapest router available on Newegg. One got dropped. The other two were both the same model Netgear routers, and both experienced the same problems. It got to the point w/ them that I would have to reset them every hour or so to keep them working. Even tried to flash them, w/ no luck. Now I go w/ a different brand, and it has been working OK so far.........

This problem was supposed to have been fixed, is obviously not, and the response times on this are attrocious. "Cleaning up old connections" is yet another non-descript notification that any first year compsci teacher would rap your knuckles for and from the symptoms hardly descriptive of anything. The person is logging in NOW, therefore any connection timestamped previous to that moment should be assumed to be defunct and dropped as soon as user/pass and software client authenticate. This isn't rocket science. There should be no hang time on this. It's the most basic of routines. I log into complex software all day at work and never have anything like it. Why? Because someone did simple reasoning when they wrote the routines.

Try logging into another server and if it works great, contactg a gm on that server and tell them your character is stuck. If you cannot log in then try reinstalling and give us more of your network information :) Such as who is your isp, what software if any do you use (such as firewall, antivirus, xfire) that is on while you play. Then also a tracert to gls.ddo.com.

Ahh, yeah with some things you get what you pay for unfortunately. I had a Netgear once, never again. Tons of problems with that one, and the fix was the exact same thing you said so it sounds like it's common. I've gone with Linksys once since, had no problems but gave that to my father when I got an 1800 series Cisco from work.

Linksys are good low cost networking items. I use a Linksys router. I also BOUGHT my cable modem rather than being handed whatever Mediacom would have handed me. When I worked for an ISP we would recycle the DSL modems just flashing them back to factory standard, but who knows what the customer did with them. I can see them being used as a place to set a drink with the occasional "Oops." going on.
The devs posted a fix for the cleaning up old connections issue and did so again here I see. BTW, Altumus, thanks for the domain name, now I have something to use when troubleshooting my own connection or a friends. I play with people across the country and being able to tell them to do a ping or tracert from there can tell me if it is their computer/network/ISP or some hop between them and the DDO servers.

i find it funny that u post your prop when your account here is linked to ingame so for them to tell u to log on dif sever and call a gm is funny to me i lost many of items and i am shure most of u have also but makes me wonder if it was not for all the friends i made in game would i still be here

Since you are having a problem and cant seem to follow direction that good, and I really dont like your attitude(yelling is not nice), I will be nice and help you see this though
follow these directions
1. Start the Game
2. When it ask for your name and password type it in
3. When you get to the screen with the multiple server to choose from Dont pick on your Regular server, pick a seerver you have never used before.
4. Create a character
5. Log that character in to the game
6. then contact a GM in game and tell them your problem about your toon that is stuck on your regular server.
They should help, you get back on
After you do that, let us know with either a Yes this helped or No this did not help.

When you look up this issue in the help section is says:
If you encounter this problem, please follow the following steps:
1. Log out of the game and close the client
2. Wait 15 minutes
3. Attempt to login again
If the condition persists, please login to another game world and contact In-Game Support to report this issue.
**Did you login to another game world? You're not getting a rseponse from the Tec support because this is in the help files and if you looked in the help files you would have known to login to another world and report your issue so that they can help you.

Why are you SCREAMING for the devs in a forum whose description specifically states that it is for help from other players? :confused:
There's even a sticky right near the top telling you that it is for P2P support and that this is not the place for support from Turbine.
And why are you calling for help from "Devs" anyway? You do realize that is short for developers, right? As in designers and programmers who have zero to do with support. :rolleyes:
Oh, yeah. One more thing.

Because there are certain standards evryone follows and typing in all caps is considered yelling and rude so yeah I have a problem with all caps and bright red type.

Actually you haven't done everything posted in this thread. I don't see a post from you answering the following questions posted by a Turbine rep;

Freyalice, is it all of your characters on Aerenal or just the one that you were playing when you got booted? And have you tried other servers?
Just trying to narrow down the problem.
