 Sharks & Minnows:eek:
Universe Tour!
August 9th
Now as much as I wanted to be in game for our merger, real life has made this an impossibility this week (I'll be outta town visiting some friends all this weekend even).
So, what I will be doing instead to celebrate the merger is:
August 9th, I will be hosting Sharks & Minnows on all the new servers
TIME SCHEDULES
Argonnessen: 7pm-8pm EST
Ghallanda: 8pm-9pm EST
Khyber: 9pm-10pm EST
Sarlona: 10pm-11pm EST (special alternate rules set!!)
Thelanis: 11pm-12am EST
HOW IT WORKS
This is a PVP game hosted in the Hammersmith Inn. There are two groups: The Sharks and the Minnows. (If you've ever played it at the swimming pool, very similar rules)
Here is a video guide to the original rules set (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UsIz0GgOJ4).... note that there are three modificiations from the original video:
1) Minnows will be unarmed/nekkid for their run
2) Sharks may not use aoe damage spells like fireball
3) Ignore the original start date, it will be August 9th, 2007
MINNOWS:
All players begin as minnows until I designate a few sharks for us. You must remove all armor, weapons, and shields. Minnows may buff themselves however with any buffs they want. Minnows start off standing on the upper platform where it is 'safe.' Minnows may form raids to make it easier to communicate. When cued by your event host, you will run through - heading for your right hand side if you're looking into the PVP area from the platform - and pass through each of the outer rooms. The hammersmith is a series of connected rooms. There is only ONE room you are NOT allowed to go in, and that is the center room, because that is the Shark's base. You also may not perform the course in reverse, you must always lap the rooms counter clockwise. Your objective is to make it out alive. If you are caught and killed, once you die, you must then report to the Shark base - the middle room - so you can get a group invite from your host to be a part of the Shark team. When you join the Shark team, look at your combat log and tell us who killed you! You will then replace that shark.
SHARKS:
The sharks will be a small team, they are 'it' - like a game of tag. Sharks are allowed to use anything to catch minnows EXCEPT aoe damage spells like fireball (because that'd be shooting fish in a barrel, and not very skilled either). Sharks start off standing in the middle room. Once the event host cues you, you may charge after the minnows. You catch a minnow by killing it. You may run in any direction, through any door, forward, backwards, repeatedly, however you feel like with ONE exception: you cannot pass through the doorway that faces the safe platform (aka the Beach). ALSO NOTE you must be careful not to kill your fellow sharks!! Just because you are in the same group/raid does not make your team mates immune to your attacks. The minnow that you kill will replace you as a shark, and then you will become a minnow yourself.
JELLYFISH
You will see your host, and other players, in a see through invisible or dead state. These players will be the referees, watching to make sure the game is flowing smoothly. If you would like to start off as a Jellyfish, or switch to being one later, just let your event host know.
BASIC OVERVIEW:
At the beginning of a round, Minnows start on the platform, strip down and buff. Sharks gather in the center room, waiting for their cue to attack. On cue, Minnows start running through the outter rooms only of the PVP area, trying to make it all the way through alive, and manage to climb back up to the platform. Sharks meanwhile will try and kill minnows. Whoever kills the minnow as a shark gets replaced by the dead minnow, who is now a shark instead! The former shark joins the minnow team. In the normal rules set, minnows make only ONE lap around the rooms. Your event host will inform you what style round it is.
ALTERNATE RULES/ROUNDS
Sharks and Minnows can be played with some varient rules, depending on the number of players present. Here are some of the alternate rules that your event host may subject you to!
Endless Tide:
Minnows on cue will be promted to start swimming and NEVER STOP! We don't stop until all sharks have managed to kill someone to take their place.
Backwards Mode:
Minnow too tough to kill? Minnows will be required to turn around and run the course facing backwards! This is a great challenge for those of you who are a bit too uber for 'regular' mode
Last Man Standing:
Minnows on cue will start swimming and NEVER STOP! However... once a minnow is killed, they become a shark, and no sharks are taken out of the original shark pool. We go until we see who is the last minnow left in the waters!
SPECIAL SARLONA RULES: See this post
I will be visiting the servers in alphabetical order that night, and will announce time frames once we're closer to the 9th. If you miss me on one server (i.e. I'm on too early or late for your home server), try catching the game on another!
This game has no restrictions to level, class, or race... though lower level players may find themselves struggling as sharks. Have no fear, your event host will mix up the rules if it seems that you're having a tough time as sharks or minnows.
See you in the Seas!
