So my original thread got zapped, I never had the chance to see if there was any replies. I'll re-ask the question.

So at the moment I have a Paladin5/Rogue1 and I was wondering what direction I could take this build to be a little different from the norm. So I was thinking bard...cant, I dont think because of alignment restrictions. I was thinking a few levels of sorc for some cool spells, but what our guild and this game really lacks (I feel) is more intimitanks. I think they would make any quest a walk in the park.

So thats what Id like to build here, an intimitank. A build that grabs a tower shield, hits /shift, blocks, intimidates and holds the aggro. High AC is obviously prority, high saves, some nice self buffs throo UMD.

So what should the split be? Paladin/Rogue/Fighter? Stick with Paladin/Rogue and buff with UMD? I was thinking another level of rogue for evasion then start splitting Paladin and fighter levels. So it would be Paladin8/Rogue2/Fighter4?

I dont know what enhancements you get at what levels so any input here would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance guys.

Bee/Eyern.

Oh and the build is a Drow, Im not adversed to rerolling to a dwarf for the dwarf armour mastery, although the spell resistances Drow get are very nice too.

If yer "toon" "splashes" levels in another class then proceeds to "turtle up", I dont want to know you.

Will your intimitank make you have to not know yourself? ;)

In all seriousness, however, I would suggest looking at Riot's build and Borror0's build and see where you can fit in 2 levels of rogue best. Although since the forums got nuked, you'll probably have to wait until they repost their builds. :(

Off the top of my head I remember Riot build as a 28 pt Human Level 14 Fighter. Borror0 was a 12 Fighter/2 Paladin 32pt dwarf. In Borror0's thread, Riot and Borror0 had a discussion regarding the differences between their intimitanks. I think it came down to Borror0 having a bit better saves via Divine Grace and Dwarven Spell Resistance, while Riot had better skill distribution and better stat flexibility via Human Adaptability. Regardless, both had very high ACs and were flooring intimidation checks.

Try to scrolldown to the second page. You'll see Riott's post and probably my answr to it. I'll try to post, but thw whole discussion is lost, and that is sad. I'd liek them to explain what they are trying to do to fix that.

I'm thiking about swaping the IMSB for ISM.

This wont be a toon splashing levels then turtling up. This will be my character, multiclassing and being good and holding aggro, thank you very much!

I was quite happy splitting the Paladin and Fighter Levels (I was 6Pal/6Ftr/2Rog). I rarely used a Tower Shield, since I didn't do much turtling, however I did keep one on me just in case. I maxed out Intimidate and had a 24 base without any Intimidate items, so could get a 34 pretty easily, which was enough for most things that I fought. You get a nice selection of Bonus Feats (giving you the chance to get Improved Shield Mastery), Fighter's Armory and Tower Shield Mastery Enhancements, as well as being able to take advantage of the Paladin bonuses. Even without any of the Raid loot I've been trying to get and wearing a Mithril Chain Shirt I have a 43 AC with a Heavy Steel Shield without any buffs and just the Spectacular Optics.

With Shield of Faith, Barkskin, and Combat Expertise, I can break 50 without a problem, and once the cap goes up to 16, can make use of a +5 Mithril Tower Shield for my full Dex bonus, get another Paladin AC Aura boost, which will help even more. Plus, having UMD means that I can use Blur and Displacement scrolls, which makes you live even longer.

The enhancement breakdown by level is in the compendium at ddo.com...

I think the most favorable level splits for an intimitank are as follows:

11p/2r/1f -- 30pt resists, max aura, evasion, bonus feat
12f/2p -- greater weapon spec, cha bonus to saves
11f/3p -- trades greater weapon spec for fear/disease immunity and the first level of aura enhancements
10f/2r/2p -- trades offense for rogue skills

The issue with being primarily pally is that casting spells takes you out of CE. Not a big deal, but it does have a 30-second cooldown from when you last activated it.

With your existing character, I'd definitely take pally up to 11, and then another rogue level (late so that you can use the skillpoints productively...). Level 14 could be fighter or rogue, depending on whether you want another feat. I'd probably go 14p/4r/2f up to level 20, which gets you max level pally spells (level 4), uncanny dodge, 2 fighter feats, and +19 BAB.

Whatever you decide, good luck!

Not knowing your current stats or feats makes it hard... but...

If you are already 5 Pal / 1 Rog, you should probably plan for 11 Pal / 2 Rog / 1 Fgt

Take Paladin to 11 for 30-point resists and highest-level Aura enhancements
Take Rogue 2 for Evasion & Mad Skill Points (to max Intimidate)
Take Fighter 1 for Tower Shield & Bonus Feat

----------------

Or:

Plan for 5 Pal / 2 Rog / 7 Fgt

5 Paladin, cuz you can't change it
2 Rogue, for same reasons as above, and you can dump other points into Tumble/Balance/UMD/etc
7 Fighter for Fighter's STR 2, Armor Mastery 2, Tower Shield Mastery 1, Bonus Feats, etc.

---------------------

Either way, you probably want to load up the Character Generator and plug in your starting stats and level-ups, so you can figure out exactly how many skill points you will get with your 2nd Rogue level, and when the best time to take it is, while considering the # of skill points for your remaining levels. Remember, Intimidate is cross-class for Paladins (2 points = 1 rank), while class skill for Fighters (1 point - 1 rank), so factor that in. Assuming that you have been dumping points into Intimidate all along, then my best guess is Rogue 2 around level 9-10, to max Intimidate, then keep it maxed the rest of the way up (plus Evasion is helpful around here).

Just some guesses.

Awesome replies guys, thank you very much.

Think Im gonna go Paladin11/Rogue2/Fighter1, next being a level in fighter to max intimidate, then the following level in rogue to keep the AP's up and envasion.

So it does sound that this would be a viable build for an intimitank. Cool.

And I will try and find the enhancement breakdown at ddo.com.

So far the 11 pal/ 2 rogue/ 1 fighter intimidate-tank has worked for mine. Should think about taking Divine Righteousness if you have 2 enhancement points to spare somewhere - that extra threat really helps with aggro-locking between intimidates. Not to mention it just ****es the hell out of the "tanks" who try to hold aggro with just damage and have zero intimidate. Sure I don't hit as hard - but the monsters THINK I'm hitting twice as hard as I am and every 10 seconds I can steal their thunder. :D

Of course you had better be ready to draw a lot of weird looks from the population of Argonnessen. For some reason people see that clenched fist in the group windo and think "oh pure dps" - you might have educate the ones I missed about how to work with real tanks.

Best of luck - maybe I can finally get in a group where I won't be the sole aggro-grabber now. ;)

i also went 10 pally, 3 rogue, 1 fighter (for extra feat)
i will eventually hit rogue 4 for the other sneak attack. i will have huge saves and use bluff/sneak attack to crit with my kopesh and all the slashing feats. I should be able to do all but the highest levels of traps. i love the great saves and healing and buffing myself. very independent build compared to my pure fighter build. obviously i don't hit as hard splitting my cha, with my str. but I don't get held, hurt or die as often either :)

Rogue sneak attack is an odd numbered level progression: 1st, 3rd, 5th, ect...

So, you would need to go Rogue 5 to get another sneak attack.

My intimitank (who's not a paladin thanks to rolling TN during headstart:mad:) very rarely turtles up. With my 50+ AC, I can take less damage swinging than most of the rest of the party is taking turtled up. So, once I mash my intimidate button, the cleric knows that I'll be the only one taking any damage - makes his/her job very simple - and less expensive than trying to keep the 15ac/400hp barb up with 15 mobs on him.

Rogue 4 gives him uncanny dodge for a +4 AC once per rest..

I don't remember his stas but there is an Intimitank in Madborn. Problem is mot people don't understand the make up of an intimitank and then tend complain when all aggro is drawn to that person. If I were you I would keep the tank to fellow guildies because I have not seen many pugs take well to them. IMO I think the build is awesome and I hope it works out well for you.
