So far we have:

Reaper - Dwarven Fighter tank

Kryms - Cleric/(sorc?)

Shoal - Probably Rogue

Xilent - Arcane Caster

Ilontu - Name: Rumay Class:Paladin

Ghostwalk - Not a caster (wants to play on weekends)

Greetings,

I'm relatively new to DDO. Compared to other MMOs, I love this community. People (for the most part) are helpful and respectful. Sometimes (maybe half) people will even do a dungeon "slow" for me when I tell them I'm new, so it's not just me following behind everyone and the only catching up to the group when in the heat of a battle.

But, I find myself soloing a lot simply because almost nothing beats hitting a dungeon for the first time and exploring it. Not knowing or being told trap/chest locations, what bad guys are in the next room, etc. I find it more fun like that. That to me is what I like best about D&D: The exploration (I've played PnP for about 6 years).

To that end, I'd like to start a dedicated group (play only with that group) of new players to play with. Now, you don't have to be completely new (I myself know all the harbor quests, but haven't done any quests past the harbor yet), but I'd prefer not knowing quests very well past a certain point (earlier in the game, the better).

I've scanned the board and seen lots of adverts for Dedicated/RP groups. I'll end up joining one of those if I can't find people for this, but I'd still prefer a group of new people like myself. If they exist ;).

If there is someone currently setting up such a group and I missed it, let me know. Anyone interested, post in this thread.

Details:

- I'd like to encourage very light RPing, but if no one else is interested then that's fine too.

- I prefer using the mic, at least a little bit. It's very useful for a rogue to call out a trap before everyone walks into it that way, or to shout out the need for healing in the heat of battle.

- I'd like to play this group at least one night a week, maybe 2. Times are negotiable, but on weekdays I'm typically only available between 6-10p Central. Weekends would be better. Playtime at least 2 hours, but we can keep going longer if everyone wants to.

- No sending items/$$ from other characters/friends. I'm not sure what to say about auction house stuff (I'm inclined toward no), that can be decided on later.

- Start with lv 1 characters (after Wavecrest), and we only play those characters with eachother from thereon out. Solo quests can be done as needed when that's the only way to do them (ie the dragonmark quest).

- I'd like to get a well rounded (a tank, a healer, a disabler, and high-damage dealer, the rest), 6 person group. I'm up for playing anything but a ranger (my current character is one) though I'd especially like to be a rogue specializing in disabling/unlocking. I'm happy making a character to round out the group if everyone else has their heart set on a certain class though.

- Server can be decided on later. Since the object is to play the group to the exclusion of other people/influences, it shouldn't matter what server we play on, just so long as we're all on it ;).

Champions of Stormreach on Thelanis would love to have new people to the game join our guild. We love helping out newbies and helping with their questions. Members are friendly and most play nightly, we even wouldnt tell you about that beholder hiding around the next corner if you dont want us to ;) .... I'd love to see you explore dungeons for the first time!

I may be interested in this, too. Like you, I like to play a rogue, but I wouldn't mind being more of a charismatic feinting backstabber, foregoing the disabling of devices, if you want to be the "real" rogue. Would this dynamic fit into your vision?

so are we going to play or what? we pay to play this!

Xilent

Which server; I ouwl be interested in either a Monday or Tuesday night. As to characters, I am williing to try anything that the group needs.

Ok, so far we have 4 people (including myself) interested.

Time: Xilent is requesting a Mon or Tues night game. I will usually be available between 6-10pm Central, but sometimes work keeps me longer (I'm quickly learning "salaried" is professional talk for "getting the shaft"), and the 6th and 7th of this month I will actually be out of town on business as well.

Server: Any will work. If no one else has a preference, I say Thelanis. I would personally like to not play on Sarlona (or any of its soon to be incorporated servers) as I have some characters there already. I would rather avoid the temptation to send stuff between this and my other characters instead of having to resist it.

Shoal, you're more than welcome to the disabler position.
Kryms, that sounds like an odd combo, but that's cool.
Me and Xil will be happy to pick up the slack. I'd also like to shy away from being an arcane caster if given the choice, so I might pick up a tank role. Depending upon Krym's clerical aspirations, I might be a Paladin.

me im up for everything and anything. just tell me where and when and in time you will see a cleric coming over

I would be up for it, if thats ok. I am up for whatever, though i just created a dwarf fighter that uses a tower shield and a dwarven waraxe.

I have created this character on xoriat, but to my knowledge today xoriat is merging with thelanis.

That would work quite well reaper. I'm keeping a list of people up on my first post.

I suspect any group will need a at least one caster. I have never tried a mage, so I will take on that responsibility - if someone else does not want that duty.

I would like to join your group and weekends would work better for me too.

I'm up for anything except casters, that's the only thing that I will not be.

Ilontu

I have to admit, I would prefer weekends as well. I'm more consistantly available then (especially early afternoon).

Class-wise we seem to be falling in together quite well. I'm caught between Barbarian, Paladin and Bard. A Two-handed weapon guy for some extra damage/slight tanking, a tanker/healer with nice auras (and because extra healing is nice) or a jack of all trades who makes everyone else better at their job too.

Paladin seems the most likely for me right now.

Let's put the day/time & Server up for a vote.

My vote:
Server: Thelanis
Time: Saturday afternoon. 2 hours + however much longer everyone wants to go. Exact starting time isn't much of a concern, but to speed up decisions, let me say 1pm central. That's easily changed if someone needs it to be though.

It looks like you have no ranged character of any sort so if its okay then I'll be a ranger or a barbarian, doesn't matter.

Weekends at 1pm central time works for me

Any time works for me. Im fine with playing from 1pm until whenever.

Server: Thelanis
Time: 1pm Central until whenever
Day: Any

Saturday 1pm CST on Thelanis is fine with me as well.

I will roll a new character, do the wavecrest tavern quest, and be ready to play this Saturday at that time unless otherwise decided before then.

I should mention that I'm new to DDO, so I'm not one of these guys who knows the location of every trap. I actually rely on the Spot skill, which will be lower than my search and disable, so I would welcome a Ranger scouting companion to keep me from stumbling into an acid trap (which, incidentally, was my last permadeath character's fate -- such a disgrace). Another tidbit to give you an idea of what type of player I am: I value character personality and shortcomings over the "perfect build" philosophy.

I will remake my dwarf fighter, but are we allowed to do the goodblade on solo or do you want to tackle everything on normal, hard, elite and skip solo.
Also, will we be doing every quest on all three difficulties or will we skip some or what?

Ilontu

Go ahead and do the Solo Only quests (Wavecrest Inn, the 4-5 right next to the lv1-2 trainers, and the dragon mark one over by the mailbox).

I'd rather we not solo the ones that we can group together on (goodblade and beyond). It doesn't matter so much for the early quests most of us have done already (aside from keeping XP for every close to equal), but in later quests, a lot of the fun is doing it as a group together.

As for which difficulties we hit, we can decide as we go. going normal -> hard -> elite right away might be too difficult for some quests. I'd like to do all quests on elite eventually though, just not necessarily as soon as its available.

My Paladin, Rumay is done with the wavecrest, I'll probably hit those solo only quests tonight.

That's how I prefer it, and is the reason I want new people like myself. The fun is in discovering things and running them the first time.

Being new, it's difficult to make "the perfect build" for any of us (barring researching it on the internet). That's not what I'm after. I do, however, request a viable build. An 18 str/ 8 int wizard does not make one a better roleplayer.

On a related note, Xil, were you planning on going Sorcerer or Wizard? If we have someone with high intelligence we can access all those arcane ruins...<hint, hint>. ;)

See you guys tomorrow.

I have owned this game for about a year, but i took at least a 4 month+ break because I didn't play it enough to keep paying, but i have been playing it a lot lately. I do not know the location of any traps, save a few that I have seen lately.

So what time are we going to start? I've kind of been looking through earlier posts but I cannot find a time we are going to meet and where we are going to meet.

Ilontu

Saturday, 1pm Central Standard Time.

Best place to meet is outside the Wavecrest, by Goodblade. We will start with his quests.

Kryms, Ghostwalk: if you're still interested, there's still room. If anyone else is interested, we can fill those slots if Kryms or Ghostwalk don't show up. We'll be starting around 1pm CST on Saturday. Persistant, dedicated group, with a small bit of RP.

This time I imagine we will finish off the other lv 1 quests: Matter of Protection and Sewer Rescue. From there, we can either hit some lv 2 or try some on hard. The idea of roleplaying "repeating" a quest strikes me as a bit odd, but I guess that's another good reason to do RP-light :).

See you Saturday

Ilontu,

Idea -- If more than six people are interested, we could always have everyone meet at the scheduled time and if more than six show, we could split in two, making sure we all do the same quests, perhaps even meeting between quests. That way, on days that someone cannot show, we still would have enough to do the quests. I think eight would be the minimum number of people that might justify this approach, but what do you think?

Saturday afternoon are family time. I was only able to play on first Saturday because I had the kid and he was sleeping; I cannot plan on that being the case all of the time. Therefore, I will be unable to do it as a weekend thing.

Dumb:(

Xilent,

I certainly understand that.

Ilontu

Understandable Xilent,

If you want to move this game to a weekday, we can do that. between 6-10p Central and like I said, I might not always be able to make it.

Shoale, Morrodin: do you want to suspend this Saturday's game until we find a more suitable time + more people?

Shoal
08-18-2007, 01:41 PM
Sure. To be honest, today was feeling a little inconvenient anyway -- darn real-life. I'm open to discussing a different day/time if you would like.

Would love to join if you still have room and do it on a weekend usually I am off today I had to work due to the weekend tech being sick but that doesnt happen often. I would play whatever was needed. I usually play clerics or multclass rogues so something new would cool
