The DDO Party @ Gencon Indy

A reminder to those going to the DDO party @ Gencon that the party location is now at Jillians.

Previously, the party was to be located at the Spaghetti Factory. However, as more and more of you are coming forward, I have opted to splurge and relocate the party over to Jillians! There will be


A private roped off area for the DDO players on the game room floor
Appetizers for you to enjoy free of charge (though anything beyond what I have pre-ordered for you, you will have to purchase seperately, and drinks must also be purchased seperately from the bar)
Activies that your non-DDO friends/spouses can enjoy within Jillians - or even you if you like - such as the game room, bowling, billiards (bowling and billiards availability depends on if another group has that section on reserve or not)
Very convenient access to the bar... our area will be right near it!
Jillians is still within walking distance of the convention center
I will still have the Turbine prizes and souveniers for you (and I'm still not telling you what those are yet )
No gencon badge rerquired to get in and attend the party
Your family - for those with spouses and children - are welcome to attend! Feel free to drag along your friends who might not play DDO, or are thinking of trying it.

Because you all are worth it.
Originally I was trying to be a bit conservative, and I wasn't so certain how many folks would even be interested in something like this (especially considering all the things there are to do at Gencon). I have come to realize that this was fast outgrowing my original location. I also came to denote that I spend about 20-40 hours a week with you all, and that you are a very big part of my life... whether I intended it to be that way or not. How often do I get the chance to spend some true face-to-face time with you? Little to none. This means hosting the party in a way/location that is worthy of you. What more appropriate place for a gamer's party than at a gaming facility?

So... as this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity, I wanted to give you all the biggest and best party I possibly could, in every conceivable way that is within my power to grant you.

What I need:

If you all would be so kind... if you are planning on attending this party PLEASE PLEASE respond to this thread and let me know, so that I can keep a more accurate head count for the poor folks at Jillians. Even if you just plan on swinging in/out for 10 minutes on your way to another gencon activity, please let me know. Remember also that you need not have a badge to the convention to get into this party. If you are local to the Indianapolis area, or just in that sort of mood to drive out for this, you are more than welcome to just come for the party without going to gencon at all! Think of this as a mini-ddo convention fan-fair ^^

In the next couple weeks I will have another special little treat for you related to this, so keep watching the forums / listening to DDOCast!

This is the first I heard about a DDO party at GenCon. My brother, a buddy of ours and myself (all DDO players) will be at GenCon this year and are interested in attending the party. What do we need to do to get on the invite? 10,000 platinum? A vorpal?

What is Gencon:

Listen to last half of the podcast episode from DDOCast (http://files.techsol.org/cyberears/audio/1639.mp3)and all the answers will unfold for ya on 'what is gencon' (eh...except ignore the part where I talk about the location being at the Spaghetti Factory... that has subsequently changed)

It is episode 22, where I guest hosted that week, and the explaination for Gencon occurs in the later part of that podcast after the commercial break. You can also access it by www.ddocast.com and select from the episode list on the right hand side. You can play through a media player or you can click/save the mp3

Basically it is a gaming convention is the SHORT story, now located in downtown Indianapolis.

You need nothing to attend the party! I have picked a location for the party that enables you to get into the party even if you DONT buy a badge for the gencon convention! Jillians is located outside of - but near - the convention center :D There will be snacks, if you're in the mood for drinks you can hit up the bar (sorry gang I sprang for food only for ya), and I will have official Turbine doorprizes to give away. There will also be some special guests, and I have other activities and surprises that I will announce veeeeeeeeeeery soon for ya, such as a fun game I call 'spot your fellow DDOer'

Our reserved area will be a roped off area on the game room floor specifically for DDO players near the bar

I was wondering way back, whether GenCon would have a Turbine/DDO showing.

I stopped looking after I saw that the one day badge was $30+.

I am a big visitor to GenCon, going 10+ times since 1995 (my first GenCon in Milwaukee) and even was part of the Virtual GenCon team led by Mark Jindra, of WotC.

Great times, and great friends.

I will be there, and I will get others around me locally as well.

I'll instruct them to sign up here as well.

I do enjoy DDO very much, take offense to people that poo-poo it, and have just as much fun looking for that cool set of armor, than adventuring.

I will do some scale runs, I just have to get Shaamis to leave the bar, and THAT is a high-level quest in itself!

PS: Merlask, will there be a wi-fi connection, cuz I might be able to bring a webcam and slap it on my laptop, and see what we can do for everyone not able to go to GenCon

Parking right by Jillians can be a little tough on weekends as its located near a bunch of other places where people like to hang out, but there's a whole bunch of lots within a block or two from there - just look for the parking signs. There is some street parking as well, but it goes quick.

You can also walk there pretty easy from the convention center if you are actually attending GenCon. Just go outside and head east until you hit Meridian Street. Jillians is easy to spot.

Yeah your two best bets for parking for Jillians are:

- The mall garage located beneath the convention center, then walk over

or

- If you feel like a bit mroe of a jog (and in past years, a cheaper rate) the above ground government garage that is directly across from the main convention center entrance (Marriotte is next to it) is another good one. You'll jsut have to walk a couple blocks if you park there

1) Everyone that wants to play will get a piece of paper to write their name, and the character's name they wish to have their "prize" sent to (after Gencon)
2) One grab per player.
