Just a quick question...I've beat Big Red quite a few times and everytime, with every group, we run the bases to clear the outer circle before taking out the pillars.

Is there another way? Can the whole group run the outer perimiter together and fight the mobs base by base, then take out the pillars?

NO the dragon will start to spam fireballs if more than one is on a base at a time i do think i read someplace that you can use disintegrate on the pillers from pithers mound not to sure

Yes, there are other ways.

With powerful level 14 characters, I simply send one player to each island. That player first kills the monsters and then attacks the pillar. Usually the monsters respawn at around 50% pillar health so he kills them again. Then when everyone is ready, break the pillars at the same time and everyone run in.

It's not too hard for a level 12+ characters to defeat the monsters and smash the pillar on his own. For example, a wizard can come in with Otto's Sphere of Dancing which will keep all the elementals/mephits busy for several minutes at a time, giving you ample opportunity to hit the pillar with 4-5 Disintegrates.

However, any of these methods will require more resources than the traditional approach. They demand more of the player characters who will fulfill the role, so it's likely that very many of the groups running VON6 simply won't have enough power to pull it off. Suicide herding is simple and reliable.

Here's how I would do it.

Send the leader or person calling the plays to the Pitcher's Mound (the gate in front of the Dragon's platform). Everyone else stays still at Home Plate (the zone in point).

Send one Runner with Cold/Elec Resist, Jump, Haste, Displacement, G.H., and Blindness Immun. to Third Base, Second Base, First Base, then back Home, drawing all creatures with him. Earth elementals may lag behind a bit, but they will be aggroed on the runner and that's all that is important.

At Home Plate will be a Bard to Fascinate and an Arcane Caster.

EXTENDED Solid Fogs (Solid Fogs on the bridge connected to Home Plate as well). Scrolls of Solid Fog can work too but are a nuiscance(sp?) and not to mention can't be bought anymore.

Also, one or two Heightened, Extended Symbols of Fear at the intersection between Home and the Pitcher's Mound.

Whatever makes it past the Symbols, will be slowed by Solid Fog, following a Hasted Runner, while being Fascinated.

Now, once that is done, everyone except the Bard, Caster, and Runner who will stay at Home to CC the mobs there, can disperse to bring down their assigned Bases, for the Countdown. Ignore Feared mobs.

Issue Order 66 for all mobs once the Gate opens.

There, clean and easy. :)

NOTE: This only works with bard and someone who has precise shot/improved precise shot (usually ranger).

First: Send everyone to pitchers mound (have ranger go first)

Second: As soon as ranger can target 3rd base pillar from pitchers mound and start taking down pillar (greater construct bane bow works well)

Third: As soon as 3rd base pillar is down, start taking down 1st base pillar. At this time, the bard will start making a run to 2nd base.

Fourth: Bard will Fascinate earth ellys at 1st base and continue to 2nd base.

Fifth: Bard will Fascinate mephits at 2nd base and start taking down pillar.

Sixth: When all pillars are ready, the ranger takes down 3rd pillar first using mulitshot (which should take like 2 seconds), then switch focus to 1st base (which should take another 2 seconds) meanwhile the bard is taking down 2nd at the same time.

Seventh: Poof, door down no deaths and only the bard had to run bases, and the mobs are still fascinated, the bard runs back to pitchers mound.

Eighth: Kill Velah!

I have also tried marry-go-round. The bard runs first to each base and fascinates, then 3 fighter types run behind knocking down the pillars. The first guy knocks it down as much as possible then keeps running, so the second guy can run to his base. it works pretty well until mobs break, and 3rd base can suck sometimes. The previous way, noone ever goes to 3rd base for this reason.
