barb and war damage reduction question

I just rolled a Warf Barb and invested in the damage reduction and the adam body for the ac so I should have a -X damage reduction. I was soloing and had the combat tab on and was hit for 3 points of damage. when I read the combat report it said, spider hits you for 3 points of damage, your damage reduction stops 3 points of damage, however I still took that (3points)damage.

My question is did the spider actually hit me for 6 and the damage reduction -3 for the damage for a -3. And if thats so, why didn't the combat report read like that?

Yes you were hit for 6 points of damage and the DR reduced it by 3 to 3.

It tells you it like this so that the lazy people don't have to subtract the DR damage from what it tells them they took in order to find out how much damage got through. (IMO)

Note that your WF DR will not stack with your barbarian DR, so don't bother investing into both...
