Well met all!
I am fairly new to online gaming (have dabbled in Guild Wars and WOW), but I've been playind D&D pen and paper for many years (20 or so). I thought I would give this a try, but don't know a whole lot about online gaming. I love to role play, and would be interested in joining a guild of HELPFUL members. I really didn't like the other games Iv'e played online, they didn't seem very NEWB friendly. I hope this is different because I love D&D and I don't want to be dissapointed. Anyway, hope to see you all on the inside!!

First of, welcome to DDO. If you need help, Ophelians are willing to helo you! :) However, we are not great roleplayers... we do happen to roleplay sometimes, but that's more to laugh and everything. We have a bunch of players, but not a lot. You migth not be able to get in full guild groups, at leats at low levels, but I'll help you whenever you got questions. We only got good guys in our guild, and we're there to have fun! :)

If you really want to roleplay, Thelanis and Sarlona are good roleplaying servers, from what I've heard. Drop by the Guild Matchup forum to look them up if you feel like it.

Yeah , go to Thelanis and check out The Sublime Permadeath Guild.
We reroll when we die, so even our most experienced and knowledgeable players are logged on with
LOW LEVEL CHARACTERS
quite frequently. This will give you the opportunity to learn the game and enjoying playing the lower level quests without having to group with either:
other newbies
or veterans of the game who are in a hurry to get their new idea for a character build through the beginner stuff as quickly as possible.

Even players from our guild who have solo'd level 2 quests four hundred times on elite will play slowly when they are running it for the four hundred and first time. Because 1 mistake means we have to start all over, so rushing is not an option.

I also think almost every single player in our guild enjoyed playing pen and paper before video games became so big, so we'd have that in common with the original poster as well.

The permadeath playstyle is not for everybody, and I think all playstyles are equal. Whatever way of playing is most fun for people is the one that is the best.

But, as a beginner, I think it would be the perfect, patient, mature guild for you to join. I had never played any MMORPGs before DDO, and I had never played a single quest any other way when I joined The Sublime.
Some people may try it and enjoy our guild for a bit, especially when they are new, and then move on to "regular" playstyle after awhile. Some, like myself, may never play any other way.
I've never done a raid, but I've loved every moment spent playing DDO.

If you're into RP but not perma death, check also the fellowship of the golden knight on thelanis.

Sarlona has perhaps the 2 largest active Role Playing Guilds in all of DDO, though I'm not a member.

See here:
Guilds of Sarlona (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=495)

Inside you will find the Role Players Guilds, which include:
Stormreach Explorer's League (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Stormreach_Explorers_League/),
Lightstorm's Dragonslayers Guildsite - http://www.lightstorm.info (http://www.lightstorm.info/)
Dragonspire (http://www.guilduniverse.com/dragonspire/default.aspx) is another one.

Of them all, I'm most familar with Lightstorm's Dragonslayers. Every time I've run with them EVERY one was alot of fun. Each member brings his/her own level of Role Play and make it fun and funny.

Now since your new, applying and joining a guild could be the best thing for you. They will, with patience, show you all the ins and outs. And you may just make some good friends along the way to game with often!

Have fun, and good Luck!
