View Full Version : Do Blur & Displacement stack?

I'm sure the answer is no, but I'm planning out a bard build and I see they have access to two different spells, in a progression. Blur as lvl 2 spell, Displacement as lvl 3 spell.

I'd take Blur, but I'm concerned it will lose worth once I have displacement, but they would both be good IF blur and displacement stack for a 70% miss chance.

Anyone know for sure?

They don't. I believe they have different durations though.

You can have both on at the same time.

Whether they stack is up to interpretation :)

I have gotten both blur and displacement messages when shooting at a single mob in a very short span of time, so at least for mobs it appears that the 20% blur check and the 50% displacement check are both done.

If you think about what each is doing, it makes sense that both would be in effect - blur just gives you a blurry outline, while displacement makes you appear a little ways off to one side (visual effects in the game aside).

The reason for taking both is Blur is a long duration buff (e.g., 10 minutes) while Displacement is a more expensive short duration buff (e.g., 1 minute). I like to put Blur on the whole party at initial buff time, then spot cast Displacement on select party members before critical fights.

Yes, both do stack. I carry both on my bard all the time.

We should be careful when saying these "stack". They don't add up to a 70% miss chance that the enemy rolls on. The enemy will roll to see if they get past the 50% (Displacement) if they succeed then they will roll to see if they get past the 20% (Blur). It might be the other way around but you get the idea.

So that would be miss chance of 1 - (1 - 0.5) * (1 - 0.2) = 60%
