I was wondering how many people are subscribers to DDO.

That's been a very long debated and speculated upon question. Unfortunately Turbine's not giving any information other than what we can glean from the assorted releases. Obviously they're turning a profit since the game's still here.

As far as our speculating goes, a good few have tried to do headcounts at assorted times to gauge server numbers and it's long been a forgone conclusion that one can't go by forum populace to estimate in game populace since there's a large amount who do play that avoid the forums with a 10 metre cattleprod.

I'd say as long as there's others you can group with, that should be good enough.

well considering that many player are annon... it really not possible to give a count. plus also subs that are cancelled can still retain the char for eventual return.... totally no way to determine the numbers

That information is quite often held in secret by many MMOs. There are sites the work on providing that very info, but for many MMOs there are no official numbers to go off of. Generally, it is only the top games and top producers that officially give out those numbers, as for the most part it doesn't matter, they are already at the top.

MMOs have become so competative now, that it is a risky situation to let their competitors know their numbers, and Turbine has pretty much expressed that they are not going to release any such numbers publically for DDO, so anyone's guess is as good as anyone else's.

All that really matter is if you enjoy the game and are able to enjoy the game with the people present when you are playing. If not then the numbers are probably too low for you. If so, then they are probably just fine. Beyond that, we will probably never really know.
