Simple question here. I am so tired of repairing after dealing with slimes. I haven't been lucky enough to get Muckbane yet. I know what weapons work best and what doesn't. Just wondering. Are there also spells or potions that do any damage to them. They are a nuisance and I want them to go away.
Nothing worse than fighting the mob and ....here they come. I hate slugs!!
Aaaargh.........Sorry....I'm better now.

Fists or normal 2H weapons. 2H weapons because when they break you don't start shield bashing.

It's still worth getting a muckbane. Might take 5,6...20 tries, though.

Ok then....and yeah I'm still trying for muckbane...and trying and trying.Lol

Simple solution, just carry around (3 or 4) 1 copper wooden clubs until you get a Muckbane. If they break, throw em away and buy another.

One trick I used was to buy a heavy mace from the starter seller for a few silver. Then whenever I had to repair it, the cost was only coppers at a time. I tossed it once I got a muckbane. Using your fists is another good approach to avoiding weapon damage, espeically if you have some Strength to back it up. Unarmed kicking and punching will be slower, but ultimately a lot cheaper in general.

think of farming muckbane 1..2...3...20..times as one long quest. :P

Clubs are preferable, as wood seems to deteriorate more slowly than metal, so your cheap 1 cp club will last twice as long as a plain mace. If you have martial weapon proficiency, Greatclubs work very well, giving a good amount of damage, while sparing your shield.

Your fists 100% of the time.

What may take 2-3 seconds to kill with a muck bane, will take you 10-15 seconds with out...

f your time crunched'ed then use your good weapons or buy the 1 cp disposable clubs from the simple melee vendor in the tent...

actually, just buy one 1copper club, you can repair it over and over, it will never cost more than the price of the weapon... i should know, i done it several times while trying to get the muckbane.

You can also generally buy a muckbane off the AH. In the meantime just carry a couple clubs.

As for spells I think that are immune to fire and cold but magic missile seems to work however I agree with everyone else on the thread and just get a coupe of cheap clubs/maces and treat them as your muckbane until you get a real one. Having more than one is a good idea as I have worn out multiple weapons on slime heavy maps.

I have also had good luck running away while shooting them with arrows. It aint quick but it avoids wear and tear on my weapons.

that only works on some oozes. remember arrows split any oozes that arent the simple gray ones.

If I recall correctly, I believe that chill touch will smack all of them.
Shocking grasp about half but I forget the types that are immune. But with shocking grasp you can take enhancements to do more damage.

Thanks everyone for all the ideas. I'm working at farming muckbane. In kobold brothers last night I got so tired of them that I took whatever time it took to kill them all with arrows. Not much fun, but I used it as an excercise at running backward, strafing and such. ......and still no Muckbane!!
Back at it tonight.Lol

The good news is that they have basically stopped putting oozes in quests. The last new ooze I can remember is from the Pit. My muckbane isn't even on my taskbar anymore.

Get someone to help you. Two folks in a party.

Enter quest at the left - right fork, take the left fork kill the kobold brother their open the sewer, run back take the right fork and get close to the opened door. If muck spawns kill it and open the chest. if he doesn't spawn, recall, break party, reform party, repeat. You need a second to break party and make the 5 minute timer reset.

While one kind of ooze (kargon forget which) are immune cold damanage, the rest are not. and ooze have very very VERY terrimable reflamex saves, so niacs work very very nice on the ones cold damanage work on.

be carefumul with shockaming grasp, as anothamer type of ooze (kargon also forget which) gets split by any lightnaming damanage. this include thing like lightnaming guard armormer/robes too.

It's kind of funny actually, because they don't really look like they're paralyzed but more of stuck in an upwardly motion, lol

Like the earlier people mentioned, get yourself a couple cheap clubs and use those. If you are a fighter type, Greatclubs tend to be very effective on them too. If you run the Durks quest enough times, odds are you will find a Muckbane eventually. Another neat trick is 2 Muckbanes with TWF as oozes have a very poor AC and even a lowly caster can hit them. I think it's funny when oozes get cursed!

With the new update, we now have an "Everbright" effect on weapons that make them immune to acid and rust damage from slimes and rust monsters. Now you can just find yourself a decent magical "Everbright" blunt weapon to cover the entire slime and rust monster gamut. Guess the dev's introduced the "everbright" because so many people cried and complained at the high repair bills and were frustrated running Durks Got A Secret 20x times and never got a Muckbane!

PranasP
08-07-2007, 03:25 PM
The everbright is working well for me but I have not found an everbright blunt weapon yet. Just the slashers.

Still combined with a quick blueshine armor swap, the repair costs have gone down dramatically

They aren't that bad, honestly. At least they weren't before the AI change.

I know before, you could sneak up to them and then come back to pull back ONLY the slimes. Given that they have tremor sence, you can't hide from them. But you can hide from the other so you'd only drag back the slimes.

Beyond that, the best everbright weapon I've pulled to date is a +2 acid heavy mace.

Ok then....and yeah I'm still trying for muckbane...and trying and trying.Lol

I feel your pain, or rather have felt it. Awhile back, when they changed the frequency of the muckbane drop (due to vendors being flooded with muckbanes), it took me 56 runs to get muck to even spawn, and it wasnt until run 64 I think that I got a muckbane. Bad luck on my part, but it hasnt been that bad for a long time, however I dont use muckbanes much anymore anyways.

Sadly though, people are asking ridiculous amounts on the AH for them. If you happen to be on Argonnessen, let me know, I have some spares I have no use for.

Ouch... When I see Muck I have about a 30% chance of pulling one it seems. I've pulled them so often I've started to toss them in the AH for a little extra cash. Buy out of something like 10 or 15k gold. I may start to beat the quest for fun, then start to invite people in for the chest when he spawns.

For those having trouble pulling a muckbane: Are you hitting both levers in the quest? I don't have the exact link available but a dev has posted that the correct lever to spawn Muck is random between the 2 switches. However the quickest way to reach Muck is to hit the switch in room 2. THis is coming from the guy who has had the tenacity to outfit all of his rangers with dual muckbanes (except for my STR based 2 Pally/11 Ranger - He dual weilds muckdooms... :D )

I'll check my Argo characters. If I have one I'll mail it to you if you PM me your character name. I'm gonna trash my Argo characters now that the servers are merged.

EDIT - sent 1 muckbane (and it's in good condition, I didn't send you one with 1 point of durability left or anything)

I had a ordeal the other day where I was playing von4 and did not fight the slimes with my party because I forgot there were going to be slimes and the only blunt weapons I had were my 2 paralyzing light maces (on slimes, I don't think so) and my banishing light mace ( agian not on slimes)
