View Full Version : The Shadow King....is he invincible?

I was doing king with a party of level 13s and 14s today. We turned off all the flames, killed both of the shadow kings guardians,
and led the mummy to the light cage where we attacked him with:
melee dmg from holy, puregood, flaming, and greater undead bane weapons, and
spell dmg from firewall, fireball, delayed blast fireball, holy smite, heal, lay on hands, ottos freezing sphere, melfs acid arrow, magic missile, flamestrike, and distentegrate.
he didnt take a single point of dmg, it did not say he was immune to any of these effects on the screen or in the combat log.
The logical assumption i made was, the mummy, nsu, was bugged. So i created a ticket and waited for a gm who told me that there was a way to defeat him and that they could not reveal the strategy and closed my ticket.
My question is....obviously they have changed this quest since mod 4, and id love a tip on how to beat this, although this encounter has already made me mad enough to stop playing the game for a while, and definately never to run the sodding shadow tomb again.

Wait wait wait.. you put the mummy in the cage.. you activated the cage .. and he still didn't die from spell damage?

If you know this, then just ignor me, but in the sun room you need 2 toons to activate the switches (up the ladders and center on the cat walk above) once the mummy is on the lit circle. Once the sunlight is on then you can spank him. (Not that I ever got that far cuz our mummy vanished somewhere - probably to get a beer or something...pretty smart for a dead guy).

Anyone else having issues getting him (Nyx) to follow you around the outside ring of the quest? (not thru the center shrine area)
He seemed to get stuck about half way, pause (pathing) and then go back towards his start point. He would go thru the center without issue.
Is this due to the new AI?
We had the gates the wrong way and got killed near the center shrines. This left a huge group of mobs in the shrine room making it almost impossible to pass thru.
Very annoying given the re-spawn rate. A party of 3x10, 2x8 had killed over 310 mobs before we called it (would get no XP after deaths/recalls).

our group had the same problem, we had just run around the place to turn off the lights, and forgot to kill one of the named before we activated nsu. nsu was immune to everything under the activated light. anyway we killed the named and still couldnt kill nsu. in the end we disbanded.

Yeah we got him to follow us quite easily inside the light cage, we killed both of his named guardians that the guy at the beginning tells you he wont be vulnerable until theyre both dead. He was inside the cage with the light on.
Thank god the devs decided that people didnt hate this quest enough already.

We still couldn't kill him and eventually the cage wentr back up. Then the game crashed for our entire party. This quest is the absolute worst in game. The devs really need to fix this one.

After learning the trick (leave the lights lit, draw everything in the area to the light and kill them there where they are cursed) the quest is actually kind of cool.
I don't like having to kite Nsu into the final room from the other side of the dungeon though. That's a bit of a pain.
One trick for that though is to leave one of the outer ring lights by the entrance for last. That way, you can pull all the respawns to that light and kill them before starting to kite Nsu back to the final room.

This has happened to me twice recently and while i'm sorry it happened to you too, i'm glad it wasn't just me. We had him in the light and nothing would work - holy, pure good, righteousness, fire EVERYTHING, undead slaying arrows, heal, u name it. The first time it happened, we all got bugged and froze up. We could turn in place but couldn't use a weapon or item, run, jump - nothing! Then we all lost connection. The second time, we all put tickets in to the Devs but got no response. I was going to wait as long as possible since this was the second time this happened but the party got tired of waiting and one by one they all left.
Yes, this quest sucks but i hate having it undone and could use the favor so I wish they would fix it!!!!!!!!!

Not to mention if you complete both series, you get one of the nicer items in the game. The Silver Flame necklace which has Deathblock and Negative Energy Drain protection 5 (?) charges.

NSU bugged on my group the other night, we killed his guardians, pulled the levers, had him in the cage, and nothing. It took 45 minutes for the GM to do anything but we were finally rewarded.
THe questline is claustrophic and boring.

Hmmmm... my group waited for a GM and they told me that there was a way to beat him. We just didnt do it right thats the main problem...:mad:

Everytime I have done this quest it has been bugged for the groups I was in. The last time the same thing as above happened the guardians were killed pulled him to the cage, we even stood him directly on the yellow rune, and he was still immune when it was activated. We had to put in a ticket and a senior GM had to take our complaint. He watched us activate the cage twice and try to beat him. When he Took 0 damage the GM killed him for us and we got credit for it.
Every time I have done this quest we had to have a GM kill the guy for us in the end, he is never vunerable.

Same thing here. He bugged out. Couldn't kill him and waited for a DM to finally finish the quest for us. I'd recommend putting in a ticket when you know you've got about half an hour left in the quest lol. That way by the time they get to you he should be bugging right then.

Same problem last night with Nsu in the Shadow King. Waited 1:20 for a GM, but she fixed it for us without a second thought. Hurray GMs!

Bugs like this make it so I don't want to even run the quest. I was thinking about running the entire chain with Freebee this weekend.....but now...not so sure.

This is nuts. Group of 4 lvl 14s did this today, same thing Nsu invuln. (I had no idea it was a common issue until reading this thread) we died a few times each and spent way too much time on this before we reported it.
DM came in, said that the good news was it was a known issue and the Devs were working on a fix.
Great, I think. Bad news is he wouldn't kill Nsu, and said we had to redo the quest.

I h8 these quests with a passion, then to have them admit that there is a known issue and NOT do anything about it?
DMs need new freaking guidlines. Either pretend blissful ignorance of a problem, or fix the problem at hand. You can't tell people its a problem being worked on but redo your last two hours work anyway.

Same problem, ran the quest with high lvls 12-14's. Mummy wouldn't take damage in the cage...and he hung up forever in his pull over across the dungeon. DM came in and fixed, but it was over an hour and a half wait. For now I'd say unless you need the quest, skip it.

I think at some point one of the developers said it was fixed, but I just avoid those quests to begin with, and now that something that went so wrong with it I just don't want to step into it anymore to find out, so I avoid that one, I'll do the other three, but I'm not going to chance spend an hour to an hour and 1/2 in there to find out that the mummy is bugged.

Check this out,
about a month ago,we decided to knock off the crapopolis.So we hit all of them except shadow crypt & king.We do the whole shadow king quest to get to the end.
He is unkillable.We place a ticket.A Gm comes on to tell us we have to re-do the quest.The next day as i login i notice they have something saying that issue came up & will be fixed at the next patch.
Here we are a few updates later & still bugged.If i get to the end & the Gm tells me to redo it,i'll close that account pretty **** fast.When it's a known issue,f'n do something about it.The same as the "june" update or any other new thing they implement , never works smoothly.
Watch the disasters strike again as of 9am friday for the loot week-end.Let's see if they learnt anything from the last one.If it's so bad i can't enjoy the biggest incentive in the game then that'll be the end of this game.Too bad i love it,sometimes difficult choices are the best ones.
Any new mmo coming out worth throwing my money at guys?(NOT Turdine)

Ran it twice about a week and a half ago on elite, two different toons, no issues. But then, maybe we just got lucky. :)

It has been fixed a while ago. If you experiment a bug, make sure you bug report it (and pray the GM will help, which is rarely the case for bugs that are not officially acknowledged).

That's the problem with very complicated quests. They assume that if it isn't working, the player screwed up. They are probably right most of the time, but not all of the time.

I still need this one on elite.....but can't find a competant group to do it with. Any of you on Tharashk want to help out I would be very appreciative. :)
The times I've seen a group have problems it was not clear whether it was really bugged or we were just having too hard of a time with all of the mobs respawning... I hate this quest too, and think it is the hardest quest in the game (and I've done almost every other quest on elite)

The pain!
Did it tonight. Apparently one of the named bodyguards didn't register when killed, so we couldn't talk to the shadow king. GM fixed it in about 15 minutes.
I don't know how you're supposed to run the mummy to the other side if you don't have someone immune to fear in your party. Run really fast, I guess.
This would be a nice quest if everything didn't freakin' respawn, or at least just not that fast. Thanks to the respawns, I can't see ever doing this one again. The uberly-awesome wizard had 150 kills, ("Fire! Fire!"), the next person had 20-some. Good luck doing this with an all-melee or ranged party.
We did it on normal. Teleporting puzzles aside, part 5 on elite was cake in comparison.
I thought developers would have learned way back with Von3 that respawns suck.

That's one way of doing it. There's a faster way though that also cuts back the respawns A LOT.
